This image was captured early one morning during a stay at a resort that holds a special place in my heart—one of the first places where my love of bird photography took flight.
The sun had just risen, casting everything in a soft golden light. And then, as if on cue, a sandhill crane stepped into frame—elegant, composed, almost as if it were posing just for me. I raised my camera instinctively.
What I love most about this image, though, is a tiny detail you might not notice at first glance: a small insect resting quietly on the crane’s face. It’s the kind of subtle, easily missed moment that makes me fall in love with photography all over again. I get genuinely excited by details like that—nature’s quiet surprises.
The Sandhill Crane is one of Aether’s most challenging puzzles—arguably the hardest we offer—but it’s also one of the most rewarding. The soft gradients, fine textures, and golden warmth make it feel like building a painting piece by piece. I love it so much, I’ve framed it in my office.
