This photograph was taken just after sunrise during a stay at a place that marked the beginning of my love for bird photography.
The light was gentle and golden, the world still quiet. Then, almost unexpectedly, a sandhill crane stepped into view - composed, unhurried, as though it belonged exactly where it stood.
What continues to delight me is a detail many might overlook: a small insect resting lightly on the crane’s face. It’s the kind of subtle moment that reminds me why I love photographing wildlife - nature’s quiet surprises, revealed only when we slow down enough to see them.
